Work-Study

Another good way of getting some cash to help pay your tuition is to participate in a work-study program.  Work-study programs provide you with certain kinds of jobs both on and off campus, and like the other things we listed, they come in two flavors: federal and non-federal.

Federal work-study programs typically encourage you to work in community service positions and in fields that are related to your major either on or off campus.  You have to be eligible for work-study, and since it’s based on financial need your eligibility is determined by your FAFSA.

Non-Federal Work-Study is another option if you don’t qualify for the federal program since it doesn’t depend on financial need.  For non-federal work study, it’s usually a good idea to look for student employment opportunities at your school, since they’ll be more likely to accommodate your class schedules.
