Scholarships and grants are the best kind of financial help you can get because you don’t have to pay them back. Apply, qualify and maintain the minimum requirements and you’re good to go.
Typically, grants are given to students based on financial need though there are some exceptions. A lot of grant money comes through the federal Pell Grant program, though states, schools and even some private entities offer grants as well.
Scholarships, on the other hand, are typically not tied to financial need, but are given based on achievement in either academics, athletics, or something else. A few examples are the National Merit Scholarship which is tied to PSAT / NMSQT test scores, and athletic scholarships awarded to talented college athletes.
Remember, it’s free money so do your research!
